Story
After being released from prison after 25 years, New York mob boss Dwight “The General” Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sylvester Stallone’s first starring role in a television series. Dwight “The General” Manfredi: I don’t really go to church. The opening credits sequence shows various photographic and painted views as well as Oklahoma landmarks imposed upon the New York City landscape: A statue of Sioux Indian chief “Touch the Clouds” wearing a war bonnet and a bone choker necklace (breastplate) imposed upon the top of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Golden Driller statue imposed upon the Statue of Liberty. The Western Gateway Arch of Route 66 imposed upon one of Manhattan’s main “avenues.” In New York City, in the borough of Manhattan, there are several numbered “avenues” that are crisscrossed by smaller numbered streets. I watched this out of curiosity, no high expectations, just surprised to see Stallone in a TV series. You feel the tension in the scenes, it also feels pretty realistic to the extent that the plot demands it.
It’s a pretty clever script, but not in a witty, punchy way, which bodes well
I wouldn’t say it’s funny, but a couple of funny scenes as a result of Dwight (Stallone) coming out of a 25-year prison sentence and not being fully integrated into the way the world works now; so I’m guessing the abrupt transition will offer some interesting setbacks down the road for us. I’m glad someone told him how to use an Uber, it was fun while it lasted. Of course, Stallone has a great presence, but the rest of the cast seems pretty good. The show literally feels like you took gangsters written for an early 90s movie and threw them into 2022, which makes for a nice mix of humor and violence.
I love how it has that western oatmeal feel to it at times while still being mobster-like
I thought it was going to be a throwaway show like some of Stallone’s recent movies are; mostly leaning on his name and performances, but Taylor Sheridan does a good job here with writing worthy of Stallone’s performances. I think it’ll be fun to see the macho Stallone building a criminal empire from scratch, in the middle of nowhere, in Tulsa. I think the show could end up flying under the radar and then creating a buzz with people wondering how they never noticed before, because I haven’t seen that much Paramount hype. I went in to see it without high expectations, but if the premiere episode is any indication, it could be a lot of fun to watch.
If it keeps this up, great, if it gets better, it’ll be fantastic
