Riot was so impressed with the work that they asked Fortiche to make an animated series, which took them several years to create. After the release of the first season, Riot announced that there would be a second season and that it would take less time to produce.. Performed by Imagine Dragons ft. Arcane tells the story of two young orphaned sisters growing up and falling into trouble in the twin cities of Zaun and Piltover. The series is based on the video game League of Legends, and while it drops you right into this fictional world, the necessary time and care is taken to set up the locations and characters in a commendable show-not-tell fashion. Solid character development and world-building means this is a thoroughly enjoyable watch without knowing anything about the game.
The animation is downright exquisite
As an anime fan, I found the animation in Arcane to be beyond anything I’ve ever seen from an animated series before. There’s incredible attention to detail. It’s clear that no artistic talent or financial expense has been spared in bringing the world of Runeterra to life. A great soundtrack, great acting, and a gripping story that pulls no punches when it comes to violence and more on the mature side.
Only the first three episodes have been released so far, and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us!
